1. I couldn't resist coming back, but I promise to back off after this post..... Just to portray what I've been trying to hammer in to all of our heads about subliminal messages that get embedded into our heads even without our knowledge and shape the way we think and deal with things, I'd like to show you this short video clip of a man we all know and admire....... http://video.yahoo.com/watch/1760933/5848023 Now just imagine what powers people have against us, mere mortals!!! We can basically be moulded to think and do whatever the powerful people want. We can hate anyone they want us to hate, Al Qaeda for example, we can love whoever they want us to, Obama for example believe anything they want us to 9/11 for example and on and on and on. I admire the west for their skills. Hey only the fittest survive in this world and the west clearly represents the fittest, but I see no reason why I shouldn't highlight that and take some silly pride in this fact that people as proud as all of us here fail to accept and admit. I just want to say to them all 'Gotcha!'
2. No, I was explaining where the principle comes from. You do exactly the same thing with groupthink in an earlier post. I don't see why it is only patronising when it comes from me, and not from you. Because we are at a stage in history where the opinions and analyses of more people on both sides of any debate can be published on-line and become part of the record of events. In the past histories were written by a few select individuals often with a particular agenda and bias, whereas now many more people can contribute and so a more balanced picture will be built up. If you read my post again, you will see that I did not suggest that you believed this. I stated that I did not agree with the statements you had made. Whateva!
3. Nocturnal, mate.... Dont flatter yourself!! You're the last person I aspire to be. You really take pride in your star count dont you? Do you seriously think I would want a life like your's? There is a massive world outside of your's in superegocafe. You got to watch it before you turn into a megalomaniac. And I am not going to bother responding to your 'premises', they give me a headache. Save your 'talent' for Simon Cowell. I shall gracefully make my exit and strive to be more articulate using other means. And i will say one last thing before that..... You win!
4. 9696 Honestly, i dont know what you are on about? But I do agree with your previous posts, I am concerned about my mental health too. But I dont thnk its as bad as me being delusional, I am just exploring my mind's limits but have enough insight to back off when it gets stressful.
5. i mean, why does this guy have to be so verbal ? and if he has to, can he not just stick to his views rather than changing them all the time ? A bit like the other idiot Shah Rukh Khan.Speaking of idiots, where's the biggest one of them all? Navjot Sidhu!!
6. Dhoni's fantastic! Parthiv patel should be kicked out for good for ever!!
7. I expected a lesser patronising tone than the one you have decided to go with in response to my post. 'Agree to differ/disagree'!!! As if I dont use that line myself on a day to day basis!! As if I dont realise that we are having a constructive arguement in order to facilitate a consen$sus. There was no need to tell me about the man behind the razor, clearly you were assuming that I cant even google about it to find out what you were on about. But the skill of a good historian is to be aware of these potential biases and to take them into account in their analysis. This is something that will hopefully change as more and more people have access to record global events as they happen over the internet for all to see and evaluate. Mate, if all the information you are being fed is biased and you choose to swallow it as an intelligent person in the here and now, then how can you expect the future to have a more balanced view when you have contributed to that biased view with your statements said with absolute conviction. I haven't said anything with absolute conviction. I am merely free associating with a view to understand the information that is being forcefed to me. I find it quite insulting that you suggest that I believe psychiatry is a conspiracy of professionals. Iam not an idiot who thinks psychiatrists are conspirators, i was merely putting across the views of antipsychiatrists which I am willing to listen to and empathise with, just as I know to empathise with a delusional patient. I am exhibiting my ability to hold different sides of the arguement and take a neutral position. I dont want to believe everything that is said to you, shown to you etc. But you choose to take everything at face value! A bit shallow IMHO! I am also not denying that people lives are at risk and that there are people, including the medial professionals with genuine concerns.
8. You mean, literally hitting below the belt? Why am I not surprised Funnyman? Pray do give your humble opinions on the above Nocturnal. I am dying to read your views now. As soon as I am back from the MAU. I've been called to see this guy who OD's on cocaine!(?! :-? :) Cool. But thank you for your comment. With that comment, you have just proven my theory about mind games in a much more simpler context. You are a popular member of the forum [Analogy = americans] and you use your influence [Analogy = Western Might] as a popular member to disregard all of what I have said [ Analogy = the few people who have an alternative opinion ] and instead focused on the one funny comment you made and thereby trying to steer away forum members's views [ Analogy = world population ] on the point I was making and thereby retaining your superiority and suppressing mine as an emerging forum member with opinions [Analogy = emerging countries like India] Nothing personal mate. We are psychiatrists, we should be good at this ort of thing

10. Another example of a subliminal message is the American Flag. When you watch any popular american film, namely action, adventure or an oscar winner, The American Flag is shown somewhere or the other on the screen. It isn't very obvious, unless you start looking from now on. You will see that when you watch a scene in an american film where you feel excited about the protagonist winning, an american flag will pop by in the corner of the screen. This, IMHO, is a case of the western / american media using the theory behind Classical conditioning to portray the west, in this case the americans as world leaders. The typical procedure for inducing classical conditioning involves presentations of a neutral stimulus along with a stimulus of some significance. The neutral stimulus could be any event that does not result in an overt behavioral response from the organism under investigation. Pavlov referred to this as a conditioned stimulus (CS) [impressive American films]. Conversely, presentation of the significant stimulus necessarily evokes an innate, often reflexive, response. Pavlov called these the unconditioned stimulus (US) [American Flag] and unconditioned response (UR) [impressed viewers], respectively. If the CS [ Impressive American films] and the US [American Flag] are repeatedly paired, eventually the two stimuli become associated and the organism begins to produce a behavioral response to the CS. Pavlov called this the conditioned response (CR). [Americans are superior than everybody else; they can win wars; if the americans commandos landed during the mumbai terrorist attack, they would have blown the terrorist out of there and saved everybody's lives] This is precisely the reason why when the Somalians captured an american captain who eventually escaped, you've got to begin to ask how in f*ck's name did the american captain escape uninjured when every other ship had fatalities. Outcome = Americans rock!! Americans are the best! I accept that 'escape' with a serious pinch of salt. Remember the first Country which used its navy to scare the somalian pirates away was the Indian army. I remember posting that article somewhere her but what happened in 2 -3 days???? Articles came out of nowhere suddenly that the survivors of the indian navy attack turned out to be the 'crew members of a Thailand based ship', Indian navy was immediately discredited not only in everyone's mind, but in my mind too. That wasnt a coincidence. It was the western media trying to portray the developing country, India in this case, as a joke. A Joke which involved 'Incompetent' indian navy which cant even tell the difference between pirates and seamen!!! Western media = Mind games!!! Am I making sense now?
11. Entertainment in the media can alter our view of history, politics, race, sex and class differences. Although TV programs, scientific evidence, publications in papers may seem apolitical in intent, they have a powerful influence not only on how we dress, talk, and spend our money, but also on how we define social problems and which ideological images we embrace. Viewers / Readers who think what they’re watching / reading is “only entertainment” or 'straightforward news' are less likely to challenge prejudices implicit in the program—including militarism, xenophobia, and ethnic bigotry—and more inclined to accept a prefabricated understanding of the world as it is portrayed on the screen. Or to be more specific re: this thread, I think what I am trying to showcase is whats called as A subliminal message , a signal or message embedded in another medium, designed to pass below the normal limits of the human mind's perception. These messages are unrecognizable by the conscious mind, but in certain situations can affect the subconscious mind and can negatively or positively influence subsequent later thoughts, behaviors, actions, attitudes, belief systems and value systems. Articles like this have a different role other than just 'entertaining news' and that is to hit people where it hurts subconsciously / ? unconsciously. Thank God, I didn't fall prey to the clear groupthink that this forum seems to exhibit. Do you guys know how relieved I am to have found a way to express myself and not look foolish anymore????
12. I know its been a while, but I've just come up with an explanation thanks to my desire to express myself better and am pasting what I had posted on a different thread, This I think better explains what I was trying to say about the above article and 'mind games'.........................
13. I know I've jumped around different topics in my last post but entertainment can alter our view of history, politics, race, sex and class differences. Although TV programs, scientific evidence, publications in papers may seem apolitical in intent, they have a powerful influence not only on how we dress, talk, and spend our money, but also on how we define social problems and which ideological images we embrace. Viewers / Readers who think what they’re watching is “only entertainment” or 'straightforward news' are less likely to challenge prejudices implicit in the program—including militarism, xenophobia, and ethnic bigotry—and more inclined to accept a prefabricated understanding of the world as it is portrayed on the screen. Thank you very much!!!!! I sincerely wish people spent an hour or two thinking before they blindly responded to above with hypocritical, unsophisticated, superficial, vain and conceited comments!!
14. Yes but we should also be discerning enough to tell when even a wider picture is being photoshopped. And that precisely is my point!!! You choose to believe that my view is 'photoshopped' thereby disregarding the clear possibility that the picture that has been painted to you is the one that has been 'photoshopped'. You, my friend, with your 'razor principle' are exhibiting classic Groupthink. Or in simpler words [A reminder of the definition]..... a type of thought exhibited by group members [majority world population in this case ] who try to minimize conflict and reach consensus without critically testing, analyzing, and evaluating ideas. You are trying to avoid being seen as foolish and desire to avoid embarrassing or angering other members of the group [superegocafe memebers]. I am digressing slightly here, but........ Lets not ignore that We, psychiatrists are brilliant at 'conspiring' i.e we collude together and come up with 'our' theories for psychosis and delusions and insist that our view is the right one and everyone else's is wrong. I mean, just because our livelihood depends on using our 'psychiatry' skills, doesn't mean that we are always right. 1. The specific definitions of, or criteria for, hundreds of current psychiatric diagnoses or disorders are vague and arbitrary. 2. They are Scientifically and/or clinically ill-founded system of categorical diagnosis|diagnoses [iCD / DSM] 3. Psychiatrists claim that a number of medications have a proven efficacy for improving or managing a number of mental health disorders. Do they? Honestly????? 4. Disease is managed in large populations for financial purposes. 5. Drug companies routinely fund much of the research conducted by psychiatrists, advertise medication in psychiatric journals and conferences, fund psychiatric and healthcare organizations and health promotion campaigns, and send representatives to lobby general physicians and politicians. Read the summary of this document below http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200405/cmselect/cmhealth/42/42.pdf And to get back to my previous point, lets not forget the whole 'Weapons of mass destruction' farce! What was the outcome of that? The US govt. at that time got popular support, the mass weapon suppliers and producers minted billions by selling weapons / experimenting new weapons for a war that was fundamentally flawed. The pretext was that Saddam had something to do with the 9/11 and we know now that that was Bollocks. If people stopped this whole sanctimonious attitude, I wouldn't be so miffed.
15. Atlanta based CDCP is the 'only lab in the country that can positively confirm the new swine flu strain — which has been identified as H1N1.' (NYT, April 25, 2009) Atlanta based CDCP is playing a key role in identifying the virus on behalf of several Latin American countries, including Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica. On April 30th, the US government established a CDCP lab in Mexico. In other words, a US government agency is monopolising the conduct of laboratory testing, the data and analysis. Again, proof that what really is happening is a drug company monopoly, a lab testing monopoly and on a wider scale distraction techniques, to distract people's attention from a devastating global economic crisis which is leading the World into mass poverty and unemployment, not to mention the war in the Middle East and the broader issue of US-NATO war crimes. Only numpties would rubbish statements like the above and totally disregard them. We as doctors should be able to demonstrate that we can look at the wider picture at all times.
