autumn part 1 exams

hello out there,

i'd like some tips on studying for the next part 1 exams

. how long prep time will be enough

. which are the good texts

. which are the good question books

. are there people like me out there who are interested instarting their studying now

. in short i need all the tips i can get especially from the last set of drs who passed the part 1

I think you will need about 3 months revision time. I found Guildford revision course really useful.

FIRST, read 'how to pass MRCPsych' by Williams and Trigwell.

Good books include, Examination notes in Psychiatry by Bird and Harrison, Psychology for psychiatrists by Gupta and Gupta, psychotherapy book by Pedder and Brown, Oxford Textbook, Symptoms in the mind by Sims.

Also when you get nearer to the exam find out who local College examiners are and do long case practise; also nab any SpR's you can re this.

The surest way to pass the written paper is for you to read around past questions.From 1988 to date,that way you would cover a very wide area and more importantly you would be reading to the point, because Royal college questions follow same pattern.If you do straightforward reading you will have the knowledge but unable to answer many of the questions correctly.
