Personally, one of the best, excellent Consultants, excellent oppourtunities for research, teaching (As a registrar you can start working as honorary Lecturer at University of Liverpool and Examiner for OSCE etc. Having worked at Oxford and Mersey, I can easily compare the two. Having said that, Oxford is surely the good option. Because I am interested in Neuropsychiatry, I can get plenty of oppourtunities to spend some time with Neuropyschiatrist at Walton Neuro (WIKIPEDIA- It is the only specialist neurosciences NHS trust in the United Kingdom dedicated to providing comprehensive neurological, neurosurgical and pain management services. Alongside Aintree University Hospital and Royal Liverpool University Hospital in the city centre, The Walton Centre acts as designated major trauma centre for neurological trauma for the Merseyside and Cheshire regions).

Also there is plenty of research happening around University of Liverpool and Royal Liverpool Hospital (The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is a major teaching and research hospital located in the city of Liverpool, England. Together with two other Liverpool hospitals - Aintree University Hospital and The Walton Centre - the Royal Liverpool acts as a designated adult major trauma centre for the Merseyside and Cheshire regions.[1] The landmark £451 million redevelopment of the Royal Liverpool and its collaborative links with the University of Liverpool and institutions on the Liverpool Biomedical Campus, have given the city of Liverpool recognition as one of the leading UK centres for health research and innovation. The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is the largest and busiest hospital in Merseyside and Cheshire, and has the largest accident and emergency department of its kind in the country. In 2009, Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust was rated "Excellent" for the quality of its services and the quality of its financial management. In March 2010, the British Government gave the go ahead for a £451 million redevelopment of the hospital, which will make the hospital one of the most advanced in the UK). There is also Brain Injury Department run by the Neurologist and Neuropsyhiatrist.

If you are interested in Diplomas, Masters, Wales and Midlands are good places with easy commute. Certainly Manchester is quite near.

Plenty of locum oppourtunities

PLACES TO LIVE-Warrington,Kirkby,Cheshire-

Again thats my opinion....

best of luck
