To be effective when taken as 'as required prescription (PRN)', beta blockers such as atenolol must be given how long before an anticipated event in performance anxiety type of social phobia?

SPMM  1 hour

|Birmingham 4 hours

The plasma half-life of atenolol is about 6 hours. However, the duration of therapeutic effect is much longer than this, allowing once daily dosing.

On the other hand, the plasma half-life of propranolol is 1-3 hours.

I guess if you prescribe atenolol then it is 4 hours but if you prescribe propranolol then it is 1 hour.
