ST4 Psychotherapy Advice

1 post in this topic

Hi fellow psychiatry trainees,
I'm a post membership psych trainee from Ireland who is hoping to apply for a UK ST4 training scheme.
I was hoping to get some advice from anybody who has any knowledge about ST4 medical psychotherapy  interviews, either as a standalone specialty, or a dual specialty with general adult or forensics.
Looking at the competition ratios over the past few years it seems to be one the most if not the most competitive specialty.
Beyond the basic Royal College Curriculum Guidelines (which for non-UK trainees is evidenced by completion of form C) how much extra in terms of psychotherapy experience is required to make yourself competitive at a psychotherapy interview?
Any information is appreciated as I'm considering whether it is even worth applying for psychotherapy at all.
Kind regards,
Hopeful ST4 Applicant!
