In theory could you do MHA assessments for a living?

2 posts in this topic

Is this possible?

You get say £170-180 per assessment (varies according to where you work). Say you give your details out to a load of amhp's within 100 miles and did 2 per day for 4 days a week. I believe this works out around £50k pa.

A reasonably stress free job where you're your own boss and work maybe 12 hours a week.

Anyone ever think about this?

It depends on the area but 2 per day does not sound feasible unless you do out of hours. I have done quite a bit of MHA assessments when doing my full-time research degree, and I was pretty flexible in the day especially when writing up my thesis. However, the most of my MHA assessments were out of hours because this is the time when AMHPs need someone urgently and usually you can do 2 assessments in a row.

Some retired psychiatrists do many assessments as they are  more flexible and I assume the income would be sufficient enough
