Hi,

Wasn't it postnatal depression with psychosis? She believed her son got leukaemia & even had thoughts of ending his life to 'relieve him from suffering'

Hi,I sat the exam ,on this day,and the actor in postnatal depression.told me she is having this sad mood, retardation decreased appetite, and other symptoms like increased lethargy, decreased. Concentration, weight loss due to poor appetite and decreased sleep since 5months after the birth of the baby ,followed by delusions about the baby's health since one month which were MOOD CONGRUENT,and looking at the chronological order of depression followed.by delusions it is most probably severe depression with some psychotic symptoms, she did not have any bizarre delusions or hallucinations of postnatal psychosis .,mood was depressed, she started crying,in between talking about how she feels about herself, and was willing to accept help.

Exactly ..thats what I thought. There were 3 candidates in my circuit who thought she didn't have psychotic symptoms (mood congruent delusions..leaukemia) and that it was just depression and didn't require antipsychotics, which I disagreed.
