how about

early intervention in psychiatry, is it justified?

There is a very informative article by swaran singh in APT jan 2005? excellent summary of pros and cons of early intervention. ethical issues, advantages and disadvantages of early intervention. I think it is an important topic as it is one of the few preventive strategies in Psychiatry.

Hi just did the exam.

Some of the topics we predicted and feel are highly predictable:

1. A question on Schizophrenia ALWAYS comes. So prepare NICE guidelines, etc. Know it well.

2. Carers, Carers, Carers....! I cant say it enough!

3. Re institutionalisation, are we heading back?

4. Suicide - read thoroughly from the Oxford Textbook. A section on DSH follows. For brownie points read the National Confidential Enquiry by Appleby.

We predicted THE GAP IN ADULT ADHD services and it came. Oh, dont worry about stuff like the Mental Capacity Act, etc. These legal questions WILL NOT be asked as the paper is common for all countries, which obviously defer legally. So dont waste your time.

shall we discuss answers for those predicted questions as well?. From which one shall we start?

Suicide has not been a topic in the recent past. You can expect it. Appleby has written loads of stuff on the national confidential enquiry report

Homicide is well written in the manchester notes. You can have a casual read and mentally form your own essay plans.

Ceri Evans SPR in Gwent i guess has written an informative article on Psychological therapies in old age

Social defeat in Schizophrenia [ Please perform an APT search]

There was a very thought provoking BJ Psych editorial [ Are Co morbidities artefacts of psychiatric illnesses or are they seperate entities.

Early intervention in Psychosis [ article by Swaran Singh APT]

Please read all the manchester essays.

Depression and Bipolar disorder being on the same spectrum with depression and mania on the opposite sides

Hi

I know this sounds like a silly question but how far back should one go reading APT articles? Someone said that up to 1year b4 exam as these would be the hot topics. I am unable to access the recent articles with my athens password? Is thereanother way?????...other than subscribing of course!!!!! ;)

I think that the college won't ask topics related to Mental Health Legislation as it applies to England and Wales only. perhaps they could ask parts of it.

I hope i am right!!!!!!!!!!

I think a capacity essay has long been overdue.. maybe it will this time.

Also my consultant seems to think that an Essay to do with the 'recovery model' is another possibilty. Though i must admit i have to read and find out what its about.

Not to say that they are not important... College advertises APT as 'The Journal read by Examiners'...

I find APT articles extremely boring and dull to read...

sometimes circumstantial, sometimes dramatic and sometimes more literary than substance (even the scientific ones other than the 'New ways of training' stuff..)

'does anybody else in here feel the way I do'
