5.D-Cycloserine enhances the extiction of fear

True

D-cycloserine (a modulator of the glycine site of the glutamate N-methyl-D-aspartate [NMDA] receptor) may be a particularly effective treatmentin anxiety disorders.

RE: Incidence rates of Schizophrenia in Barbados vs. U.K.

The age-corrected incidence rate for schizophrenia per 10 000 is 2.09 in Jamaica, 2.2 per 1000 in Trinidad, and 2.92 in Barbados. These rates are lower than the incidence rates reported for white British people, and significantly lower that the 6- to 18-fold higher risk ratio incidence reported for African Caribbeans living in Britain.

8.Heritability of alcohol dependence depends on the population prevalence

True(sorry,can`t find a conclusive ref)

A family history of alcohol or drug dependence remains one of the strongest predictors of risk, with heritability estimates for alcohol dependence ranging from 45 to 65 per cent for men and women

7.Genetic linkage studies of BPAD has shown that a suseptiblity gene on chromosome 18 occurs in some families

True

Berrettini et al first reported linkage of bipolar affective disorder to chromosome 18 DNA markers in a systematic genome survey including 22 families. These authors' results suggest that a susceptibility gene is present in the pericentromeric region of this chromosome.

3.The heritabilty of cannabis use is 60-80%

False

The heritability of use and abuse of illicit substances was modest (25% or less), whereas the heritability of tobacco use and nicotine dependence was substantial (40% to 60%)

2.Homosexuality in boys is associated with spending less time with the father

FALSE

i think this has been answered elsewhere in the forum as well.

homosexuality was originally thought to be associated with spending less time with the father but recent studies have not shown a definite link.

7.schizoaffective state is kraeplins mixed state

i think FALSE.

wherever I've read Kraepelin's mixed state is linked to mood disorders/BPAD not schizoaffective. Any other ideas?

7.schizoaffective state is kraeplins mixed state

I think it is true because the major psychoses were divided into two groups: dementia praecox, which deteriorated to dementia, and manic-depressive psychosis, which did not deteriorate.

The classification excluded causes and psychological influences and was based on morbid outcome, although Kraepelin later conceded that some patients with dementia praecox recovered. It gave clinical meaning to many disconnected facts and created new disease entities.

Hey Khuram

Maybe this will convince you?!

Concept

Kraepelin1 defined MS as a combination of manic and depressive symptoms in three domains: mood, psychomotor activity and ideation. He considered that it occurred in more advanced stages of the disease. He described 6 types of mixed states, based on the several combinations of polarity of these 3 spheres or domains:

1. Excited depression

2. Depression with flight of ideas

3. Depressive-anxious mania

4. Inhibited mania

5. Mania with poverty of thoughts

6. Manic stupor

I have been to the link that you have mentioned and it clearly concludes job stress is an independent risk factor of sick leave whatever the gender, the occupational class and the sector of activity.
