brain boosting for exams

20 posts in this topic

Hi ALL,

I'm a psych reg in Australia and am part of the web team for our website

www.anzapt.org

we're trying to put together an article for trainees who are preparing for their fellowship written exams where we canvas all and sundry for their approach to boosting their brain for max performance in pre exam study and exam performance:

so far I have exercise, ginko biloba, ? sex ( got to be good somehow),

7 hrs+ sleep per night.

any other cognitive tricks to enlist as much of the brain per unit time

to assist in laying down the right kind of memory that can be retrieved

in the right kind of way...it's all a bit soft but anything will help

and these kind of registrar articles are the most popular? if you have

any ideas or even better facts let me know. ::)

Hi deeta,

interesting topic. I find that playing video games especially action packed First person shooters helps to improve my concentration and retention whenever my brain feels oversaturated. When i was preparing for my pt 2 it was 1 hr studying and 10 mins pure ,unadulterated ,adrenaline pumping action

I personally found reading 'asterix comics' and seeing 'tom and jerry' cartoons in between study breaks extremely relaxing. you laugh your guts out and then get back to studies, lol

thanks for the above. rumour has it that many candidates in the UK are getting into the nicotine patches as a bit of a smart drug approach ...what's the word?

hmmmmm....

thats a new one!!! :o

but thinking about it... it does make sense... atleast on paper.... instead of sitting all night smoking your lungs away, you might aswell stick some patches and get on with it :lol::lol:

i found not studying at all and randomly guessing is the best way to approach the rcpsych exam. doesn't really help with the brain boosting thing though. sorry.

If you are male I do not advise having sex the night before an exam...

Only works for females!!

The rest of the time you don't really need a reason, do you?

can't rememeber what i did really, going for a  walk helped to think clearly and  i would not agree with no sex if you are a male,it quite worked very well for me! ::)

not eating heavily helped me from falling asleep!! watched movies when i felt very i have no chance in this exam!, helped me with the magical thinking suggested in LEVEL3 byt the link in the previous post by deeta. level 5 would be the coolest !!!

yup i went bowling with friends,-some sort of physical activity keeps my mind fresh as well hmm that includes sex doesn't it?

hope that was useful!

cheers

Particularly liked the Level V.wish it were soo easy to study

A nice drive out in the country side at night does calm me up(provided it is safe to go)
