20 posts in this topic

HI ALL,

I AM TRYING TO CONTACT ALL THOSE WHO HAD THEIR CLINICAL PT-2 CENTRES AT DUNSTON HILL DAY HOSPITAL.GATESHEAD ON MAY 19 AND 20.

I was keen to know who all passed and that does anyone remember the names of the examiners who were marking the PMPS on 19 may. They were two asian gentlemen.

Help will really be appreciated.

thanks shankaro, :)

i am sorry u could not pass neither could i-damn PMPS. >:( :( :o

i did not think the PMPS were bad but was surprised when did not pass. ???

The pmp examiners would not let me say pmp in a structure the way i had been practising but were throwing questions at me rat-a tat.It was like a viva-voce going for me,which i found very unusual and wondered what had i done to deserve this. i know i had answered all questions quite accurately

how was it for u.i know u might not want to go thru it again, which is understandable.

but i really want to appeal, knowing well that nothing will come out of it. :(

well well well

you took the words out of my mouth.

mine must have been 3 of the easiest pmps

started with

1. treatment rx 50 yr f 5 yr h/o of dep frustrated comes to op tells she has taken an od of hypnotics manage

conversation went like this.

i'' i would initially commence with a risk assessment'' stopped and asked what risk ass.( this is the 1st 10 sec)

i told suicide risk ass imm next q what is suicide risk ass

explained about suicidal ideation, past h/o., previous attempts, severity..... again stopped. asked risk in the current pt.

told has taken hypnotics would want to know how much, which tabs, started speaking on wanting to get opinion of cardiff agency for od and physical treatment .... stopped

what is an hypnotic?

ans any drug that aids sleep.

name some.

told of benzos, zolpidem and zopiclone.

examiner ' benzos are hypnotics?

ans yes. 'are you sure' ans yes

examiner again so you are telling me benzos are hypnotics i again yes as per bnf some benzos are hypnotics  examiner @ah now some benzos which?

i replied temazepam, nitrazepam and flunitrazepam

further q  any thing else replied have to refer.

how do you treat treatment resistance?

started outline that would confirm , look notes stopped and told ans the q.

again started about inv stopped and told dr please ans q

again started on psychological and medical.

again stopped and told dr please tell us the medical management, any guidelines.

i told maudsley guidelines and there was a exclamation 'maudsley!!'i stuck on telling litium 300mg aim for a level of 0.3 to stopped  anything else

tryptophan, anything else thyroxine anything else clonazepam anything else cbt add on, stick to medical therapies anything else wanted to say ect but slipped my mind

same sort of drama with next q on differential of treatment rx

my other 2 pmps were similar q and answer i felt i answered all quiries i threw all structure out of the window. clearly he was not impressed with my ans as you can see in the above ex.( 1 pmp was 12 week pregnant f on heroin, benzos, alcohol manage- i am in substance misuse posting currently, other was 3 time remitted schiz on depot requesting to discontinue comes with gf all pmps were sitters which i had practiced with at least 2-3 consultants could have talked till the cows came home but never got the chance.)

had a bad cold and was running short of temper so might have come across as brusque, well

why i failed god knows and the examiner.

my clinical tutor could not believe it .none of the consultants whom i have worked with could belive that i failed.

but that is the way life is.

Hi Guys

I also did my exam at Duston hill and failed thanks to Dr Naik and Dr Markar. They were extremely aggressive, interrupting at every point . i had similar kind of experience as you guys had. i have lodged an appeal although i know nothing will happen, however i am wondering should we make a joint appeal involving our clinical tutors as my tutor has written to the royal college.

we need to act quickly!!!!!

waste of time:

advice: MAKE A COMPLAINT immediately after the exam if this kind of aggressive questioning happens,.I also complained because my feedback was so judgemental and 'inaccurate' and all the college could do was give my money back,.

whats the point ?

everyone knows the exam is a sham... an expensive one at that,..

good luck.!

dr naik other dr markar

ive written a poem:

how cruel some examiners can be,

for those in gateshead you see,

who argue, interupt, upset en masse,

to ensure those doctors do not pass.

complain to the college that wont do,

they dont give a toss about you,

fork up the money, keep them happy, and

keep some examiners ignorant and snappy

:o

I am sure the examiners do get instructed by the College to follow a pattern or style of examining that is fair, professional and logical, but it seems this duo did not follow that.

If you guys do have even some mins to spare from your theory exam preparation do shoot out a letter preferably collectively which is going to take up more time in organising so even individually to the College obviously naming these gentlemen. This would atleast make the College send the Observer to sit inside when they (if they) do become examiners again. Secondly it may (though I am not sure) make the College look at your performance again.

Worst come worst atleast they might give back the money which they appear to have given to one of our colleagues as written above.

I feel really sorry for you. This must have been really frustrating.

Besk of luck and hope that you get some good examiner next time.

Why am I not surpised to find the name of this particular centre and the names of this particular examiners being slagged off... I sat the exam there as well- Thursday. I found reading your comments quite soothing because, although I have just pass the exame in the second sitting, I find the memory of my first PMPs deeply disturbing. Knowing that other people's impression was similar is reassuring. At least my feedback was fair (I still keep it). It said (roughly): your clinical skills are good but you were a little unlucky during this examination, keep practicing...

By the way, I wander whether you got anywhere with your complaints, guys. I regret I did not see this post earlier. Even if the results cannot be ammended and even if it is too late to claim any money back, perhaps it is not too late to get those two struck off the examiners list...

ah! dunston hill.took exam last spring there see previous posts. Frankly the centre is very good.the organizers are very professional ,cordial and friendly.had arranged biscuits and sandwiches.

quiet place.expect no extra help. cases come from both op unit and nearby in pt unit. Was worried about the jody accent but no problems with regard to long case.

I had a long case of a 28 yr old graduate lady, having obessions regarding contamination. complex case as she believed it and had stopped eating and was had been force fed.had past h/o of anorexia, delayed labour - d/d - delusional disorder, eating disorder ,ocd with poor insight, psychotic depression, remote - schiz after ruling out organicity/MBD

examiners were horrible esp the pmps once ended up arguing with them ended up with 6. long case got 16.but then examiners are luck of the draw.put up if you have any specific q.

All candidates got adult case as far as I am aware. Not sure if the old age work goes on at newcastle rather than gateshead. :)
