Lack of confidentiality with exam results:

10 posts in this topic

just wondered what folks views are on exam results being published online.

i know we have the option of not having them online, but then we have to wait for post and when overseas that can take ages esp around christmas so it isnt an option really.

why is the college putting the results on display for public viewing/

the other colleges use a password system.

is the college really inept?

insensitive? whose business is it except our own.

sometimes i think we are so weak.

any views?

If you don't tick the box requesting them to keep your name hidden, then you accept that the results are made public.

Really though, given that all our names and addresses are made public information by the GMC (as well as our year of graduation and whether we are on the specialist register), people could easily access the info anyway.

the results have always been public anyway - they are displayed in the entrance hall at the college. i guess the internet makes it easier for people to find out, but realistically who cares? the only people that would bother looking would be your colleagues and they'll ask you anyway.

The college could use the web and still maintain confidentiality by publishing the roll numbers and witholding the names. But I guess the danger is that one little error could create chaos. And the college is capable of such errors!

My friend passed part 1 last year. His name was not on the website. He started believing the result but later learnt that it had been a 'technical error'.

Personally I don't care much if results are public but I can understand and support people who think a password is more appropriate.

Also having a password it would take away the huge amount of hits on the college website at 10 am when results come out.

I agree with the password system so that the result is confidential

May be we should suggest the examination department

Atleast there are few changes now

Few years back there was no set time for the result to be published

randomly it used to be out in the middle of the night

I too support the password system.I dont want all my friends and other aquaintances to look at my results even before I do and call me up and say- have u looked at the results mate?? I really get pissed off with this attitude of some people who want to just wind you up!

cheers

Actually the results form part of the public record (as part of the specialist register). The GMC are clear about transparency etc. Its tough that everyone else can see the results but as someone who has gone through it (and been told I failed by a colleague!) I still think the system is okay. You can choose to be anonymous if you want, how can it be fairer than that?

Results are not part of the Specialist Register.

With college results you have a choice, not to have it in public domain.

But with the GMC Specialist Register U dont have a choice.

Even with the membership you have a choice of withholding your details from public.

To enter the specialist register either you must have CCT/ CCST or approval thru article 14

The debate here is can the college do something to ease the pain of few sensitive souls by restricting the results to the cadidates only.
