Part II ISQ Club - Psychosis

24 posts in this topic

Part II ISQs on two topics will be posted twice a week. You are encouraged to post a reply in the thread, stating whether you think an ISQ is true or false and why (eg. a short explanation, with reference to the textbook you used). Please only deal with one ISQ in each post and include the question as the first line of your post. All ISQs are taken from previous posts by Forum members.

In a few days this ISQ Club thread will be moved to the Question Bank board. If you submit an answer, your status will be changed to 'Question Bank member' and you will be able to see the Question Bank board. Please allow up to 48 hours for this change to happen.

do typicals cause long term blockade of d2 receptors

answer true

research by Kapur in American Journal of Psychiatry 158:360-369 March 2001 proposes that the mechanism of action of clozapine and quetiapine is due to their 'fast dissocation' off of the D2 receptor. This has been accepted and was mentioned at the Manchester course just this weekend past. Also typicals cause TD even once they are stopped unless in very early stages

Prevalence of Late paraphrenia in the community is 10% - False

The question on fertility - True (paraphrenia occurs in an age group with low fertility)

Found the source of all these questions - http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/publications/gaskell/semOAP/ch10.pdf

People with late paraphrenia represent approximately 10% of the elderly

population of psychiatric hospitals. The reported prevalence of the disorder

among the elderly living in the community ranges from 0.1 to 4%

The question on fertility - True (paraphrenia occurs in an age group with low fertility)

this factor has not been replicated consistently --mentioned in the same article

so i suppose the answer can be taken as FALSE ???
