Part II ISQs will be posted regularly. You are encouraged to post a reply in the thread, stating whether you think an ISQ is true or false and why (eg. a short explanation, with reference to the textbook/clinical paper/web page you used). Please only deal with one ISQ in each post and include the question as the first line of your post.

Some questions are easier than others. Some questions may be phrased incorrectly - feel free to offer alternative questions.

Looks like doing well in this mcq involves a hands on approach! Now, where are my 2nd year housemates?

1. 50% of heroin users die at 10 years FALSE. (50% abstinent at 10 yrs. Mortality 10-5%, trickcyclist notes)

2. Intravenous IV dose of unadulterated heroin can cause seizures TRUE (probably - seen it in casualty!)

3. A large heroin intravenous dose can cause seizures TRUE (ditto above)

7. The reinforcing effects of ecstasy decline more rapidly than for cocaine. TRUE (Probably getting at dependence/mediation by dopamine and coke is more potent than ecstasy)

8. Frequent use of ecstasy leads to dependence. FALSE (is this psychological or physical dependence though. I think dependence is not known with ecstasy - more recreational)

9. Ecstasy causes more physical dependence than cocaine FALSE (see above)

10. Amphetamine withdrawl is recognised TRUE

11. Akathisia is a recognised side effect of amphetamine TRUE (dopamine supersensitivty)

12. LSD causes physical dependency FALSE (Dependency syndrome - not decribed.

probably FALSE (has the word only in it)

14. LSD is contained in large amounts in magic mushrooms FALSE (LSD is a 5HT agonist. Mushrooms have other sh#t in them)
