Your not having done an SHO post in LD shouldn't be a barrier to you getting shortlisted for an LD SpR post but, in the actual interview situation, the other candidates will be at an advantage if they are able to speak about the speciality from experience and have done audits/research in LD. If you do get an interview, it would be advisable not to mention that forensic was your first choice - it won't go over very well!

It may be more advisable to do a Staff Grade job in LD first: to see if it really is something you want to be doing for the rest of your working life.

Also, why don't you wait for further Forensic SpR posts to come up? Presumably, first time round, you applied before the Part II results were out? It is the most competitive psych NTN to get and the people who did get shortlisted probably had the advantage of already having their MRCPsych. Now you have passed the exam, you won't be at such a disadvantage next time.

Research experience in ANY area will be an advantage when you apply for an SpR post as most applicants will have done one or two audits and little else.

There are some deaneries that offer dual accreditation in Forensic and LD, but you can go into the Forensic LD field with a CSST in LD only. As an LD SpR, you could perhaps use your research and special interests slots to do a diploma or Master's in Clinical Forensic Psychiatry or Criminology.
