Interview for the Charing Cross Rotation

8 posts in this topic

Hi,

I've been doing a Trust grade post at another Mental Health Trust in London, and have been recently shortlisted for the Charing Cross SHO rotation, which i'm excited about because it can offer exposure in the field of Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry...which, for now, i have an interest in ( i suppose based on fantasy).

Any tips on what to expect at the interview?

What are the good, the bad and the ugly things about this rotation?

Thanks for your time.

If you are being interviewed for a SHO rotation then don't just focus in on the adolescent forensic bit. They need to be sure that you are committed to the rotation per se. The forensic bit would be a tiny portion of the whole rotation

When you are offerred the post, do remeber that it is better to get a good basic grounding in child psych even though the sub-specialisms are REALLY interesting. If you want to be a child psychiatrist you can always do the forensic bit as an SpR.

I had really hoped to get some experience in the child forensic bit when I was doing my SHO post in Bristol. I was told that I would have to wait until I was an Spr. (ironically I have just got my SpR post in bristol and the Child forensic consultant has left!!!!)

Hello everybody,

I am a Greek Medical Doctor, also shortlisted for the Charing Cross Scheme. This is my first message at this discussion board.

Since it is only my second invitation for an interview, apparently the first one was not very successful, could anyone share any hints, topics, potential target fields or anything else that could be considered helpful during this interview process?

Thank you in advance

Psiq

I can't give them word for word, but the gist of the questions are as follows:

1. What have you got to offer in Psychiatry?

2. Describe a case you've seen which in retrospect you would have handled a lot differently?

3. You've been called to the A&E to see a patient with a known history of Schizophrenia. He came to the A&E accompanied by his wife and son.

The patient has been shouting that he doesn't want to see his son anymore.

How would you handle this case?
