Hello!

EU citizens don't have to pass IELTS or even PLAB, as they are free to work anywhere in the EU without having to prove that they...'talk England very best'!

the same applies to medical degrees, which is funny I suppose, because if you are from down under you still have to do PLABs and if you studied in an english speaking uni you still have to do IELTS i think if you come from ourside the EU...!

cool e?

godzilla is right anout the EU nationals.

and as far as i know,

the only way you can get a IELTS exemption is if your overseas training is approved by the CCT article 14 in psychiatry and you get to become a consultant straight away. my cousin is a consultant like that in wales and thats how i know it.

if there is any other way to bypass IELTS i don't know.sorry cyclothymic it may be that your friends might have to get through the exam anyway mate.by the way, have they actually examined how hard it is to get jobs these days? they may want to think about undergoing all this pain here!! sorry if i sound patronising but isn't that the truth these days? many of my friends are strugling and even thinking why they had to come here!

Dear Paranth,

Please could you tell me more about your cousin getting CCT under article 14 from overseas. Did he get this via PMETB? I find this interesting because because of the shortage of consultant psychiatrists, about 2 years ago the department of health had started recruiting consultant psychiatrists from overseas. However now that the PMETB is responsible for specialist registration it gives added impetus to the fact that there is more than one way to get a CCT in psychiatry.
