BMA update today re IMGs

1 post in this topic

This is from the BMA JDC.

It is still early days but things are happening.

We need to keep up the pressure.

The JDC executive and education and training subcommittees meet on 3 April 2006 to discuss the changes in regulationsand have an emergency workshop on this issue to review what has been done to date and how to best continue with the uegent work. Exhaustive guidance has been drafted and, once finalised, will be put on the website this week, highlighting cases where we believe the rules have been misapplied, and aiming for definitive advice for those affected, including NHS trusts and deaneries employing graduates from outside the EEA and UK, particularly those who have trained here to date. The BMA must ensure that this document is absolutely correct to avoid adding to the misinterpretation and misinformation being circulated.

We have been in discussions with the Commission for Racial Equality who have committed to giving their opinion concerning the implementation of the rule change, and are in discussion with NHS Employers, who have distributed guidance to employers .

The Home Office and DH have agreed to a meeting with us on 18 April, where we will raise our concerns.

Thank you to all doctors who have commented and made suggestions so far

JDC, April 2006
