Ry...I was involved in a survey comparing the charecteristics

( demographic/diagnosis/support available etc.) of patients who were discharged early (eg :with the support of the Crisis Team ) to the patients whose discharge was delayed for some reason or the other.

Perhaps you could think about something on those lines.

If it is an audit don't you need to have a standard against which you can measure ...say delayed discharges. But then is there a ' standard time frame ' for discharges ??

I think you are better off doing some kind of survey on delayed discharges..ie factors which delay the discharge eg:demographics, diagnosis, detained under the MHA , delayed response to treament, non compliance, continuing substance misuse, inability to get accomodation, lack of family support etc.etc.

Laluanto seems to be right.

Is there a trust policy which says something like anyone deemed to be fit for discharge, and has been an inpatient for x no of days after the person was deemed fit for d - and had a discharge cpa - shall be called delayed d??

You could have more luck looking for policies which tell you how soon a CPA should be done, or at what frequency - once u have that u can say well cpa's were not done as per standards, and this could be a reason for delayed discharges..

any reason y u wnat to focus on delyed discharge in particular??

po an while we are at it - lets work on our other project shall we?
