When good Intentions Backfire

25 posts in this topic

Hi

everyone would have had awful experiences when their good intentions back fire.

I'd like to share my recent experience.

The recent BAPIO funds collection, one of my friends sent me a text message

for raising funds for BAPIO and asked me to send it to as many doctor friends as possible.

i did send that to all the doctor friend numbers i had in my mobile.

by mistake the number i stored in a friends name was wrong and the text

message ended up to someone.

thats it i got it.

i recieved a call form that number'

apparently the mobile showed my friends name.

i answered by greeting my friend by name only to hear

my lifetimes 'F' words and calling me PAKI, suicide bomber, this and that.

Did i deserve this. :-[ :-[ :-[

Lets have this thread for similar experiences.

no u certainly did not deserve this.but racists are in every nation....u can find them in whites, browns and black coloured people...

i would say that overall this (british)nation is a civilized and tolerant nation and we (immigrants)are flourishing in this society.we r earning and developing ourselves and our families and we should not not feel grief on once off incidents of such an unfortunate kind.

I do`nt agree with you peechoo.

Also I find highlighted comment a bit uncomfortable with...I mean what you are referring to as all of them, are people just like you and me with same level of motivations, emotions etc.

I would put it to you that hostilities exists in our countries aswell amongst various ethinic groups when it comes to right on resources (quota system etc). This is human nature.

Lets face it,if I have an old honda 70 scooter in Karachi and some suited booted foreigner bloke passess me by in his BMW...the chances are that I would feel jealous..some of the people could go a step forward and verbalize their frustrations.

I feel that it is actually the duty of immigrants (brown brother as you put them) to keep an open mind and realistic expectations and stop behaving like a mafia, which is quite apparent in the areas dominated by Asian communities.

I did not say that you should be ashamed of being brown, black or white.Your comments about

'a brown brother iz never gonna be accepted here.End of da day we are nuthing but corner shop attendants in their eyes.'

This I think is extreme and would never take any immigrant community forward because the best thing is to just let hate go otherwise it eats us and destroy us and prevent us being positive in our life.

khurram when did I speak of hate. Cmon some one calls u a paki and u want to see it as an expression of love. To be very honest I was just responding to trinitys initial statement. Apart from being called paki by a few people in the last 4 years I have had no problems but just look around u. do u watch soaps, comedy shows etc etc...movies like east is east etc. how many asian professors do u come across.

I do accept that asians are no less racists. all the sardar ji jokes (in India and pakistan) and the whole of punjab in pakistan enjoying stupid pathan jokes is just an indication of how we scream injustice when we ourselves cant be just.

Its just a discussion anyway. If you want real action then have a look at the BNP website....great entertainment

Oh well I have to agree with you on issues like BNP and being reffered to as paki etc.

Also jokes about sardars and pathans are just like jokes on Irish, jokes on blonde girls etc.

I would also say that many Pakistanis I know use the word Gora against Paki...so that problem is solved,is`nt it :)and this is my agrement with you when you say that of how we scream injustice when we ourselves can`t be just.

BNP has certain socio political upbringings in a particulatr area of England. But does it have the potential to become another Nazi movement as to what happened half a century ago against Jews..I doubt it and the reason being the extreme stand people in this coutry take against this movement.

You can find many Asians on key posts in this country. How about Danesh Bhugra.

And Cmmon yar whats wrong with east is east.Mr Khans frame of mind is not some thing which producers just made up.People from rural part of Pakistan do think in this way.If I am right that our Indian friends were involved in the production and it was a fine job.I find it an amuzing movie.

I had a chance to live amongst the Asian community in this country when I was working as a sales assisstant few years ago and have seen immigrants belonging to rural areas of subcontinent, from lower social class  there. They behave in the same way as Mr Khan does in east is east.Especially people who migrated here in 50s and 60s.

I am glad you are taking this as just a discussion because I felt that I was at the verge of offending you and loosing a superegoian pal :)

Trinity I am mortified by your experience, can you report the number to the police? That sort of stuff is well illegal!

I had a worrying piece of footage through on a multimedia message. It showed a small boy being slapped to the ground with grown men standing around laughing. In my disgust I deleted it but later wished I hadn't so I could have reported it.

Trinity,

If i were to be you, i would neglect the incidence and get on with future plans. Pusuing it will not fetch you anything except peace of mind (If and only if it is a small journey), if it takes a long journey, you will realise it is worthless, frustrating and depressing.

Put it all behind you and move forwards, expect to come across morons all along the way of life and neglect them, thy shall be at peace. You can change things slowly so work towards it, dont contemplate changing things drastically.

i did paly the neglecting game

there were different voices abusing on th phone and infact i kept my mobile off

for few days.

a couple of days ago i got a phone call from the same

number ( answered it on repeated ringing)- a middle aged female

voice apologised for whats been happening and that she came to

know about the text message and her son's recation through one

of her daughters.

she made her son to apologise and and made him delete my number.

woof! what a relief

It sounded like a teen age guy who

handed over a relucatant 'sorry' and passed the phone to his mum.

Oh! this guy had a real go at me with his friends.

what ever it is.

i'm happy now

That's 'Borat', whose alter-egos are Ali G ( a 'gangsta'-styled youth) and Bruno (european fashion journalist). Real name Sacha Baron-Cohen; actor/ entertainer, apparently an oxford grad, highly educated. His brother with same surname Baron-Cohen is an authority in Autistic Spectrum disorders! Interesting family career choices!

Trinity,

I'm glad that issue got resolved; an apology makes a massive difference, even if offered a bit reluctantly.
