ST3/ FTST3 with MRCPsych

5 posts in this topic

I am wondering how many people on this forum have passed MRCPsych and will be doing 1 extra year at the ST3 level due to the vagaries of the system... :-/

I don't think qualification matters here.

As per the eligibility criteria in the RCPsych website

ST1 requirement <12 months

ST2 12 to 36 months;

ST3 36 to 48 months wheras as FTSTA3 32 to 48 months and Part 1.

So technically it looks like if someone got Membership or Part 1 it does not disqualify them, as it only forms an entry criteria to the various higher levels.

No wonder ST1 remains unfilled.

And I will be out of the training scheme in a few days.

People who are being held up for a year or more due to this new system and having to apply to jobs at a lower level should seek advice from an Employment Lawyer. You may have a case to argue that your career has been delayed unecessarily, and that you are losing out on a year or two of Consultant wages. I suspect that claiming back the loss of lifetime earnings of £50000 or so would help those extra 1st on-call shifts seem more bearable...
