ST2 and MRCPsych Part 1

9 posts in this topic

As progression to ST3 from ST2 might depend on MRCPsych Part 1, the result of the poll can be interesting at this point.

In the personal specification of ST3 Part 1 is essential criteria and for ST4 part 2 is essential criteria at present. I am not sure whether this will stay as essential criteria for next year. Otherwise specialist trainee can come out after ST6 without any membership.

Exam is an essential criteria in Medicine, Surgery and in Paediatrics and I am not sure in other subjects.

This is for entry to run-through training at that level, as opposed to progression from the previous level.

From what the RCPsych Dean has said you will need MRCPsych to progress to ST4, but as far as I'm aware nothing's been said about needing Part I or equivalent to progress to ST3.

so i am st3 done part 1

is it that i only have one attempt in mar 08 to pass part 3 ( i am not elisgible to do part 2 this yr as i have not got enough months)?

and if i don't pass it, what about progress to st4.

i am sure if it goes to competition, there will be hundreds with mrcpsych who will be hunting for st4 posts.

just another f**k up they didnt think thru.

also prob be decoupling anyway- so exactly as it was before- 3yr sho 3 yr spr.

WHY DID THESE ******* HAVE TO CHANGE IT ANYWAY>

I have not got enough expletives to describe my contempt for those in charge of this bollocks.

They said there will be some flexibility but I don't know what it exactly means. Dr Bhugra says that at the moment it stands that way, pass mrcpsych before higher specialist training and you are not alone
