I just came across this post and have been analysing my situation.....i dont know how to think positive after going through so many attempts....but still will be going thro this again very soon. Am actually dreading now, and not sure for how long, how many more times i will have to face this again and again.

i know it sucks and i knwo it sucks even more when you are stuck in this rut, nothing that anyone says or does is going to make a difference if one is in this situation, ive been there a few times myself.....but take my word for it ... this too shall pass, one thing i can suggest is to be positive and confident in your abilities on the dreaded day....if you go in with the attitude "whats the point im gonna fail anyways" - it will show somehow or the other and then dont be surprised if you really do.

i know there are a lot of varriables at play here but you can only do so much and in the end hope that it was all enough.

Guys

I have also gone through this and had to take CASC a number of times. It is easy to say "be optimistic or positive" but how can one be positive and hopeful after a repeated failed attempts. I still remember all of those dreadful feelings but fortunately I had my wife's support 100% and she was fantastic throughout my MRCPsych: journey.

Now, after passing it, do I think it is a good, reliable and fair exam? the answer is still "no". However, I have learnt that the more you complain about the exam system or the examiners, the more you are likely to fail it again next time.

My approach was may be a little different but it seemed to have worked, so I'm sharing it here with others. Every time when I went in to the exam, I knew that my ability to achieve was around between 10 and 13 stations and the fear of failing or not being sure of passing was always there.

But the last time when I took the exam, I was not even thinking about failing. Instead, I was picturing images in my mind like I'm an ST4 enjoying my higher specialist training, doing special interest sessions, actively taking part in teaching students and core trainees, doing PG courses, leading my team and making important decisions during the absence of consultant etc. I also bought myself a new suit, booked a completely new hotel in Sheffield and ate a different light breakfast (plus two apples) before the morning stand alone stations round. I was also not bothered about what stations had already appeared over the last two days as my exam was on the third day. Basically, it was a "new me" who went in to the exam.

I don't know which part of my plan actually worked, or it was a pure luck that I passed it last time. But I know one thing for sure that everything I have pictured in my mind before the last CASC exam, I am doing them now as an ST4.
