I[ch8217]ve been reading the MRCPsych regulations...The only mandatory posts before membership are child or learning disability?

Have I been shafted being stuck in an old age job (I particularly dislike old age psych) for 6 months as an ST1 (plus 6m as an old type SHO) since my ultimate career goal is a gen adult ST4?

I was told to take it and shush coz old age was an absolute requirement! :'(

If you're only at St1 level than I wouldn't worry about it. You've got ages to get either a CAMHS or LD post.

It shouldn't prevent you from getting a GA job but mad max is right - old age was never a mandatory requirement for sitting the exam or getting membership.

However looking at the new regulations it seems that you need 12 months general adult and 12 months in two / three further sub-specialities which can include old age. This seems to imply that 24 months in general adult wouldn't be accepted as (I think) it would have been previously.
