6. Poverty doubles the risk of developing depression in single women. ? F

I think this is true - journals.cambridge.org/article_S0033291796004060 seems to suggets it and it seems logical

7. In Bipolar disorder if a person travels from West to East, the chance of a relapse of mania is worse than if hey travel from East to West

Yep - T. www.psycheducation.org/bipolar/03_treatment_app.html

Travel east - Mania

Travel west - have to do the paper 3 = depression!

8. The difference in results of Beck Depression Rating Scale and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale is due to the tests being administered differently. ? T ( They are different one self and one observer rated)

15. Motivational Interviewing aims to reduce primary gain?

I'd say F. Primary gain is psychological gain as opposed to material gain. Motivational interviewing is a collaborative effort where the dr tries to get the patient to think of why a particular course of action (e.g. quitting smoking) is in the pt's best interest. I don't think primary gain is something under the pt's control cf Somatisation disorder.

16. GABA BZD receptor is likely to be reduced in brain of individuals with alcohol dependence who are abstinenet and neurologically normal.

T - GABA BZP receptors are decreased in the grey matter of people with alcohol dependence - ref: Good old Manchester notes!

17. Clonidine is used in Detox from opioid.??? (It is used for withdrawal but is it used in detox?)

T . Used for prople committed to detox who don't want buprenorphine or methadone but just the sweet pleasure of clonidine's alpha agonist pleasure decreasing NA in the locus coerelueus We prefer Lofexidine though - less probs with BP! Ref - (what else!) - the Manchester notes

Aaah - it's good to be back on SuperEgo pre an exam!

10. In SAD melatonin secretion increases in winter. T

'The researchers found that the duration of melatonin release was steady at 9 hours throughout the year in the participants without SAD. In those with SAD, nightly melatonin secretion lasted, on average, 38 minutes longer in the winter than in the summer, with the greatest durations being about 9 hours. This seasonal disparity was more pronounced in men than in women.'
